From Writer to Published Author!

I have been making up stories for as long as I can remember, and writing them down since I could form the letters with a pencil. My favourite way to write is with a fountain pen on squared paper. There's something about putting ink on the grid that fulfills some deep yearning to immortalise the stories in my head.
When I was 14 or 15, my nana she showed me a poetry competition that was advertised in her Woman's Weekly magazine. I entered it and won a spot in their published collection. I remember seeing my words and name down in print in a proper book for the first time and that feeling was so satisfying, I realised that no matter what else, writing would always bring me comfort and fulfilment.

I started writing Fresh Water shortly after becoming a single parent and dealing with my own struggles while being the parent my 3 small children needed. The earliest versions of the book were very sad, full of longing and confusion but as I revised and rewrote, it became a story of triumph and survival. My family was no longer the archetypal married parents and neat and tidy children, but it was still a happy and successful family.

I wanted to share this story first, of all others I have written over the years, because I feel like too often we compare ourselves to what has always been held up as ideal, but being different doesn't mean you are failing or wrong.

I have so many more stories to tell. Thank you to my publisgers for helping me share them.
